The City of Cambridge is one step closer to the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election. Candidate nominations for the 2022 Municipal Election closed at 2 p.m. on August 19.
On Monday, the city’s clerk certified all nominations with the exception of one candidate in Ward One that was rejected.
The Municipal Election Act requires that the Clerk certifies nominations received during the period commencing May 2, 2022, and completed on Nomination Day, August 19, 2022. Pursuant to Section 35 of the Municipal Election Act, 1996, the certification process requires all candidates to file all necessary papers, declarations and fees.
The city clerk confirmed that they are satisfied that the certified candidates are qualified and that their nominations satisfy all requirements of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 as eligible candidates, with the exception of one candidate in Ward 1 that has been rejected.
Michelle Goodridge's nomination was rejected for failure to file all the necessary papers, declarations and fees on time.
That leaves 33 candidates in the running for the city’s eight ward councillor positions, and four for mayor.

The City provides this information for all candidates and third-party advertisers to share their information with residents and encourage everyone to stay informed on the municipal election.
The city says it has made every effort to ensure an accessible electoral process, including a range of voting tools, dates and locations to participate in this year’s election.
As well, on Election Day on Monday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., accessible voting devices that meet full accessibility standards will be available at Cambridge City Hall, including hand-held touchpad, paddles, and sip and puff tools for ballot marking. Advance voting for the election begins on October 6 at 10 a.m. at Forward Baptist Church.

To save time during the voting period, residents are also encouraged to visit www.voterlookup.ca by August 31 to ensure that their name is on the voters’ list and that their electoral information is up-to-date.
This free, online service also allows residents to add an elector to an address and change their school board support.
Voter Notification Cards (VNC) with details about when and where to vote will be mailed to registered electors in September. Be sure to bring your VNC and one piece of identification to vote.
