Taking part in a Canada-wide campaign supporting families impacted by Muscular Dystrophy, local firefighters will be doing their part this month to gather funds and raise awareness.

Firefighters from Kitchener Fire have indicated they will be at Sunrise Centre on Ottawa Street South on Saturday, aiming to fill a comically-large boot with spare change, with funds flowing to support Muscular Dystrophy Canada. Those firefighters will be in the area from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the annual initiative.

Also taking part are the professionals with the Cambridge Fire Department, setting up at the Zehrs grocery store on Conestoga Boulevard between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 24.

According to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, the annual Fill the Boot campaign serves as "one of the most successful ways Fire Departments and Associations raise funds" for the organization, garnering an average of $3 million annually for the non-profit.

As of Friday evening, the 2022 campaign has raised just over $200,000
