Waterloo Region's Acting Director of COVID-19 response provided an update on vaccine uptake locally at a regional council meeting on Wednesday.

"Thus far, 20 per cent of the eligible residents have received the fall booster," said Jessie Johal.

She added that's similar to other uptake rates across the province.

Following a brief holiday increase, uptake numbers have been decreasing at both the region's two fixed vaccine sites and mobile clinics.

"We have adjusted the resources to meet the current demand and to offer additional mobile vaccination clinics at different sites," Johal said.

That means the region has sent mobile clinics to places such as post-secondary institutions, YW supportive housing sites, and home-bound clients.

The region is also partnering with school boards to offer the COVID vaccine for all grade 8 students. Other immunizations that were missed during the pandemic, will be offered as well.

Individuals can still book COVID vaccine appointments through the provincial booking system here
