LETTER Facing homelessness through no fault of my own

There are too many money hungry people in Ontario who don't care how anyone else lives, says letter writer

It's great that you're building houses through Habitat for Humanity, but what about the rent prices. What are they going to be like?

Are we still looking at the high prices for these buildings? Do you guys even care about the homeless that are out there?

I was one of those homeless people for just over six months. Thank God I had a friend that let me live in their backyard.

I was forced to move back home to an abusive relationship and I really want out of it but cannot due to the fact I'm on ODSP and I don't make enough to rent. Neither does anybody else who is on assistance or ODSP.

What are we going to do about this now instead of bringing everybody in and taking over?

Maybe we should work on the rent; it would make life a lot easier for a lot of people in this town.

I'm not trying to be rude, I just want a home that I can call mine.

Do you know that renting a room is $1,000 a month in most places?

That is unbelievable. There are too many money hungry people in Ontario who don't care how anyone else lives. Please put that in your report.

A lot of people are going to the food bank and their crisis centers asking to get permission to be killed because they cannot afford to live in a home and they have to be homeless.

Is that really fair to anyone?

We're human, we're not animals and I know I paid my debt to society just for being on ODSP.

It was my work in my life that put me here today. Think about it; you're at work one day and your doctor pulls you off the next, your whole life changes forever. It's not fair.
