The weather was fine and attendance was high this year for the Cambridge Fall Fair 2022.
Fall Fair president Chris Chapelle served as master of ceremonies during the musical performances on the main stage Saturday and took the opportunity to thank everyone for making this year’s fair a resounding success.
“All of our board members do this voluntarily,” said Chapelle. “There is no money involved. We do it for the love of the community and I would like to thank everybody for coming out and supporting the fair this year.”
The fair was dedicated this year to Chapelle’s brother-in-law and long-time volunteer board member Dave Hibbs who passed away in 2021.
Chapelle along with Fall Fair vice president Sid Tucker invited Hibb’s wife Janet to join them on the main stage during an emotional ceremony Saturday night.
“Janet on behalf of the board we decided to do something special for you and get a plaque in Dave’s name and present it to you,” said Chapelle.
Janet Hibb’s accepted the plaque and shared some personal memories of her husband.
“I am already crying so I’m not going to apologize for it,” she said. “Thank you so much to the Cambridge Fair Board for continuing with what Dave loved so much. This would have been his 39th year volunteering for the Cambridge Fall Fair. He started back in 1983. I, actually met my husband here at the Cambridge Fall Fair in 1987.”
It was an emotional moment for Tucker as well.
“I have worked with Dave for 30 years,” said Tucker. “He was my best friend. We are just trying to pass on his legacy and do the best in his honour and carry on.”
