NEWS RELEASE
REGION OF WATERLOO

Residents who are severely to moderately immunocompromised can book an appointment for a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as long as it has been 84 days since their third dose. A fourth dose of an mRNA vaccine will offer more protection to those who are most at risk of serious outcomes from COVID-19 and the Omicron variant.

Residents are encouraged to make sure they are eligible for a fourth dose before they book an appointment. This is the specific group of severely to moderately immunocompromised individuals who were eligible for an earlier third dose. The qualifying health conditions and medications are listed on the Ministry of Health website: COVID-19 Vaccine Third Dose Recommendations (gov.on.ca).

Regional vaccination clinics, participating pharmacies, and doctors’ offices (for their patients only) will be able to administer fourth doses. Residents who are eligible for any dose of the vaccine can book an appointment at a regional vaccination clinic on the Region of Waterloo website.

Some regional vaccination clinics will also be accepting walk-ins for a fourth dose, as capacity allows.

Individuals who have questions about their specific health condition and getting a fourth dose of the vaccine should speak with their medical specialist or primary care provider.
