Parents will soon have a second option when it comes to COVID-19 vaccinations for young children.
As of Thursday, families in Waterloo Region can book appointments for Pfizer's shot for kids between the ages of five and six months.
The pediatric vaccine will be available at participating pharmacies and doctors' offices. Appointments can also be booked through the provincial portal for the regional vaccination clinic at 99 Regina Street.
Pfizer's vaccine is a three-dose series, which will be administered eight weeks apart. Mixing-and-matching also isn't advised with the vaccine, meaning kids who get it should also get Pfizer for their second and third dose.
Moderna's vaccine for the same age group began going into arms in July.
The Moderna vaccine for this age group has already been approved and is a 2-dose series.

Children should receive the same vaccine for their 2nd dose, and 3rd dose in the case of the Pfizer vaccine.
