Cambridge musician creates music videos inspired by pandemic

The Irregular Decagon films all his music videos locally, his latest was filmed in the North Dumfries Conservation Area.

The Irregular Decagon was an idea born out of the pandemic after Cambridge resident Christopher David wanted to use his creativity to make music videos that could help others spiritually and mentally.

He started over a year ago filming various scenes around Cambridge and the surrounding area.

His latest music video was filmed in the North Dumfries Conservation area.

The photo on The Irregular Decagon's album cover was taken at Riverside Park in Preston.

David releases one single a month with a music video on the Irregular Decagon's YouTube channel.

The solo artist aims to make psychedelic artwork with local nature elements added. He layers in rivers and trails found around Cambridge through his music videos.

David often covers his face using a green screen to make graphics on top of later.

"I don't want to just create music to entertain people I want my music to have a little more of an intention or purpose where the listener doesn't realize they're listening to something very healing sounding in the background," he says.

David spent a lot of time on every note and sound in his songs so it resonates on a certain frequency that's pleasant to listener's ears and helps them "release mental blockage they may not be aware they have."

The pandemic allowed David to spend more time being creative and finding resources online to make his music as everything was closed due to lockdowns in Ontario.

He is the soul creator of the music on the Irregular Decagon's channel but uses musicians locally and around the world, which he finds online to add to the songs.

David also connects with activist photographers around the world and they let him use their imagery in his music videos to create a larger impact.

The psychedelic music videos are filmed in large open spaces, David said he was feeling removed and isolated during the pandemic, so he uses open spaces to showcase his emotions while trying to connect with listeners.

His latest song titled: the world is falling apart is about how people felt during the pandemic, "many people felt like everything around them was falling apart," David said.

David wants his music to make people feel connected with their emotions while providing a sense of hope that things will get brighter.

Using certain frequencies, David thinks his music can help heal people after going through such a difficult time.

Unlike most musicians, he plans to release his songs one at a time through his YouTube channel until the album is done.

The Irregular Decagon plans to have the album completed by this coming September.
