Cambridge to be part of drive-by vigil for London family

The one-hour drive-by vigil is planned for Friday at the Waterloo Regional Police Service headquarters located at 200 Maple Grove Rd.

The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) will be holding a drive-by vigil for the victims of the family recently killed in London.

A news release sent out to media representatives says "Mosques in the Region of Waterloo would like to invite the greater community for a Drive-by Rally in support of the Muslim community in London and here at home. Muslim families, now more than ever, feel a sense of unease as they walk with their families or attend their Mosques. Community's presence at the rally would be a gesture of support and comfort."

The drive-by is planned for an hour, starting at 7 p.m. Friday at the Waterloo Regional Police Service headquarters located at 200 Maple Grove Rd.

The release also says that during the rally participants are encouraged to remain in their cars and drive in the right lane to allow for smooth traffic flow. The MAC is also asking those attending to wear and decorate their cars in green to show solidarity with Muslims in the face of increasing Islamophobia.

"Green on your car will help traffic control better manage the flow," says the release by the organizers.

After the rally, everybody is being asked to use the hashtag #KWC4London to tag and share pictures and words of support on social media.

Muslim community leaders will also be on location to greet attendees.

This is the second vigil organized in the area after a virtual one was held Tuesday by the Coalition of Muslim Women of K-W.
