The steel truss bridge on Blackbridge Road in Hespeler will be retained as a mult-use trail when a new bridge is completed sometime in the next two years.

The city is seeking public feedback on its plan to build a new bridge on Blackbridge Road, retain the old steel truss bridge for a multi-use trail, and enhance the intersection at Townline Road.

The virtual public information centre on the WR Engage site allows residents to view presentation slides of the road realignment and full project design, ask questions, or contact the design team directly.

The PIC is open from May 9 to 23.

The detail design is now 60 per cent complete.

Key elements of the project include:

  • Protection and conversion of the existing heritage bridge to a multi-use path crossing
  • Design and construction of a new bridge crossing over the Speed River
  • Improvements to Black Bridge Road and Townline Road
  • Replacement of the culvert at Irish Creek
  • Design and construction of a multi-use path on Black Bridge Road and Townline Road
  • Approvals and permits for the new bridge and culvert

Utility relocation work will begin in 2022 and construction of the improvements is tentatively scheduled to commence in 2023, subject to council approval.
