A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Cambridge Memorial Hospital after two patients tested positive for COVID.

In consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared in the Medicine B Inpatient Unit (Wing C, level 4) of Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

“The safety and well-being of our staff, providers and patients is our top priority,” said the hospital in a press release.

Staff working in the unit will need to provide a negative rapid test before work each day. Students in the wing will also be moved to another part of the hospital to ensure their safety

The hospital recommends to continue to wear the appropriate PPE as this highly transmissible variant has proven that anyone can be infectious, even when the person is asymptomatic.

“Practice physical distancing when you are not wearing PPE and continue to practice hand hygiene for the safety of all,” wrote CMH.

The outbreak will be declared over on October 13 if no new cases appear.
