Fire breaks out at 150 Main St. encampment, no one hurt

Cambridge firefighters responded to the call shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday

No one was reported hurt in a fire that broke out in a tent at the encampment at 150 Main St. in Galt early Sunday morning.

In a video posted to the Cambridge Ontario Facebook group, part of which is posted above, residents of the encampment can be seen and heard shouting as the fire spreads, sending a thick plume of black smoke into the morning sky over Galt.

At least two loud pops can be heard as the fire consumes nearby tents.

A security guard ensures everyone is away from the quickly spreading flames before police and three Cambridge Fire Department firetrucks arrive to extinguish the fire.

It appears at least three tents and their contents were completely destroyed.

Waterloo regional police said CFD is investigating the incident.

More to come.
