Hespeler Carnegie Library celebrating 100th anniversary

The Idea Exchange will be running several events to celebrate the anniversary in 2023

The Idea Exchange will be helping celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Hespeler Carnegie Library building in 2023 with several events and programs throughout the year.

The events will kick off on Feb. 4 with a presentation by City of Cambridge Information and Archives Analyst Dan Schmalz titled Hespeler Public Library: 100 Years of History that highlights the storied past of the building.

“We are very excited to mark this special year with events and activities that commemorate this milestone”, Susan Hastings, acting manager of Idea Exchange Hespeler said.

“We will tell the story of not only this building, but the community through celebrations, presentations from authors and historians, commemorative items, creative activities and more that Idea Exchange staff are planning.”

The library official opened on the corner of Adam St. and Tannery St. in 1923 with funds provided by the Carnegie Foundation.

It has undergone many changes over the past century, including an award-winning renovation in 2007.

It continues to serve as a place for residents to gather, connect and access free learning and recreational opportunities.
