A virtual vigil will take place Tuesday night to honour the victims in what London Police have called a premeditated attack, motivated by hate.

The horrific incident happened Sunday night as a family of five Muslims were out for a walk. Four were killed, including a teenager. A nine-year-old boy is the sole survivor and remains in hospital with serious injuries.

London police chief Steve Williams said investigators believe it was an intentional act and the victims were targeted because of their Islamic faith.

A 20-year-old London man was arrested and charged. He faces four counts of first-degree murder and one of attempted murder.

The Coalition of Muslim Women of K-W has planned a virtual vigil for Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

The CMW also advised residents to be vigilant of their surroundings, "as there can be a chance for a copy cat event", and said there are a series of town halls scheduled with the Waterloo Regional Police Service to address hate crimes and incidents, as well as community safety.

The first town hall is set for July 13.

Locals who experience hate crimes are encouraged to report them through the reportinghate.ca system.
