For the first time in two years, OK2BME's Pride Prom is returning to an in-person event. The last two proms were online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jackie Yovanoff is the Communications Lead for OK2BME and KW Counselling Services. She said the online format for the past couple of years just hasn't been the same.

"The level of connection is very different, and our youth are just so excited to do this in person again. They can't wait to celebrate, connect and just be themselves again," said Yovanoff.

The focus for the annual pride prom, which is happening on June 10, is to have fun, socialize and dance. There will be some entertainment and an opportunity to chat with each other.

This dance is intended for members of the 2SLGTBQIA+ community and their allies. Attendees must be between the ages of 13 and 18 and pre-registration is required.

According to Yovanoff, the reason the prom is held is so that youth have a safe space to fully be themselves.

"We know we've come a long way in our society and community but we still have a long way to go," said Yovanoff. "Some folks may not necessarily feel they can express themselves at a regular prom at their high schools. They may not be comfortable dancing with who they want to dance with or connecting with who they want to connect with."

This year's dance theme is 'Queer Euphoria' and attendees are encouraged to dress in something that encompass that theme, although, it is not required.

The event starts at 6 p.m. in the Toyota Room at 62 Dickson Street, Cambridge.

Additional information and the registration form can be found at the OK2BME website or on their social media channels.
