Region of Waterloo council are to vote Wednesday to approve an additional $614,400 for the connection of new drinking water supply wells at the Pinebush Water Supply System.

The cost of the work exceeds the region’s approved 2022-2031 Water Capital Program amount of $2,644,250.09. Additional budget approval and funding is required to complete the work.

The increase is to be funded by the Water Capital Reserve at a cost of $448,500 and the Water Development Charge Reserve Fund at $165,900.

Work under the contract includes the connection of new drinking water supply wells P19, P10A and P10B to the Pinebush Water Supply System, and supply of new pumps and instrumentation for each well.

The existing well house at the P10 well site will be demolished to allow for the decommissioning of the well, and a new well house will be constructed to include new electrical and process rooms.

The work also encompasses recommended structural upgrades and pipe replacements at the Pinebush Water Treatment Plant, identified through the asset management program.

Subject to Council approval, work will begin June 13, 2022, with substantial completion expected by April 23, 2023.
