Two trustee seats at the WRDSB are currently vacant.

The Waterloo Region District School Board will open up an application process for its two vacant trustee seats.

After the applications are received, they will be reviewed by current trustees before applicants can present their platform to the general public ahead of the trustees vote by secret ballot on June 28.

Trustees rejected the idea of appointing the runners-up from the last election and were against a by-election that would have cost $214,000 for Waterloo alone.

The two seats became available after the resignation of Marie Snyder and the death of Fred Meissner.

The board has 90 days to select new trustees through an appointment process.

Applications are being accepted until June 15.
