An open letter was sent to the Prime Minister requesting flags be lowered and a national day of mourning be declared

The Region of Waterloo will be lowering its flags at headquarters in honour of the 215 children found in a mass grave at the grounds of a residential school in Kamloops, BC.

Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky has announced the city will also lower flags at half mast in their memory, and Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic told 570 News they have been "co-ordinating with our colleagues locally and across the country and will be lowering for 215 hours beginning tomorrow morning." The flags will be lowered from May 31 to June 9.

Vrbanovic stated in a tweet that he is supporting the call for a day of national mourning.

North Dumfries will also be lowering flags starting tomorrow for 215 hours.
