The Region of Waterloo is planning upgrades along Coronation Boulevard and King Street in Preston and is seeking public input in an online survey over the next month.

A plan to fix in ground infrastructure and enhance active transportation routes along King Street and Coronation Boulevard, from downtown Preston to the delta intersection, is the focus of a new public survey on EngageWR.

The region is undertaking a planning study for improvements to the King Street corridor from Bishop Street to Concession Road and the Coronation Boulevard corridor from Concession Road to Hespeler Road/Water Street.

Improvements along the corridor are being considered to address the deteriorated roadway and underground infrastructure, as well as to provide enhanced active transportation facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.

As part of the study process, prior to any approvals, the public and other stakeholders will have an opportunity to review design alternatives and provide input on the proposed improvements.

Residents can check out the plans at the EngageWR website to review and comment on the improvements being considered for King Street from Bishop Street to Concession Road, and Coronation Boulevard from Concession Road to Water Street/Hespeler Road.

The region considers King Street and Coronation Boulevard as "two distinctly characterized roadways" and have reviewed the sections separately with two alternatives each.

Active transportation improvements, including multi-use trails, cycle tracks and sidewalks, are provided for in each option.

This survey takes approximately five minutes to complete and is open from June 8 to July 6.

All comments submitted will be posted publicly for this project and any identifying information will be removed.

This means that comments may be reported exactly as written on the Region’s website, on the EngageWR page for this project, the region’s social media and/or council reports.

Detailed design and utility work is expected to begin in 2023 and wrap up by 2025, when construction is scheduled to take place.
