The Waterloo Region District School Board says over 66 per cent of its staff and trustees have provided proof of vaccination status as of Monday.

The Waterloo Region District School Board says it will not be releasing the vaccination status of teachers who test positive for COVID after a staff member at a Cambridge school tested positive over the weekend.

Vaccination status is considered personal medical information, according to the school board.

The staff member was last in the Coronation Public School building on Sept. 14.

Waterloo Region Public Health says it has not identified any close contacts of the confirmed case at the Cambridge school.

A teacher at Kitchener Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School (KCI), however, tested positive over the weekend, leading public health to notify staff and students in one cohort to self isolate after they were identified as close contacts.

Of the 9,851 education workers and trustees in the Waterloo region public board, 6,552, or 66.5 per cent, have attested to being fully vaccinated with supporting documentation. None have attested to being fully vaccinated without providing proof.

One individual at the board has so far provided a documented medical reason for not getting the vaccine.

That leaves close to one third of teachers, staff and trustees yet to disclose their vaccination status to the school board as of Monday.

A vaccination attestation summary on the WRDSB website says the numbers will be updated again Wednesday.

The province has given no firm deadline for education workers in the province to provide proof of vaccination.

The school board could not confirm if rapid testing has started for staff who have yet to confirm their vaccination status.
