ENVIRONMENT CANADA
*************************
Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

  • Guelph - Erin - Southern Wellington County
  • Kitchener - Cambridge - Region of Waterloo
  • Mount Forest - Arthur - Northern Wellington County

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

Hazards:
Torrential downpours.
Strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h.

Timing:
This afternoon into this evening.

Discussion:
Thunderstorms developing over Lower Michigan are expected to move into Ontario this afternoon. These thunderstorms may become severe with torrential downpours giving 50 mm or more and 90 km/h wind gusts being the main threats.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
