Kids Country Club (Parents of Technologically Dependent Children of Ontario) announced today that it is transferring the operation of its Cambridge home for children with developmental, medical and behavioural disabilities to Sunbeam Community & Developmental Services.

The transfer of the home, which provides short-term respite to medically fragile technologically dependent children up to the age of 18, is expected to take effect in late June.

Sherry Groulx, Kids Country Club’s Executive Director, said the transfer will expand and enhance services for medically fragile/technologically dependent children and their families, ensuring the long-term sustainability of these valuable services into the future.

“Kids Country Club and Sunbeam are working closely to ensure a seamless transition of service to all medically fragile / technologically dependent children and their families who now receive services at our Cambridge site,” Groulx said. “We will also continue to support Ontario’s southwest region through our main location in London, which has the capacity to serve eight medically fragile / technologically dependent children.”

Sunbeam, founded in 1956, provides services and supports to individuals of all ages living with developmental disabilities who may also require specialized medical and / or behavioural supports across the central and west regions of Ontario.

These include residential group home programs, respite services for children and adults, day programs, specialized programs for medically complex individuals and assisting individuals and their caregivers in accessing community services and supports.

Brian Swainson, Sunbeam’s Chief Executive Officer, said Sunbeam is committed to exploring opportunities to expand and enhance services at the Cambridge home.

“We look forward to engaging with families who have received respite services through Kids Country Club’s Cambridge home, and invite other families of medically fragile / technologically dependent children in central west Ontario to connect with Sunbeam to understand their short-term and long-term respite goals and to help us shape current and future programming,” Swainson said.

Families are invited to contact Children’s Respite Intake at Sunbeam Developmental Resource Centre to discuss how Sunbeam can best serve your needs by calling: (519) 741-1121.
