On Friday, April 28, local MPP Brian Riddell met with the Cambridge Aquajets Swim Club to hear more about the $17,000 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used to help the club rebuild and recover from the impacts of the COVID-19.

“The Cambridge Aquajets have a long and impressive history in our community and are very deserving of this Trillium grant,” said Brian Riddell, MPP for Cambridge. “This grant has allowed the club to purchase new equipment and technology that will benefit swimmers and coaches for years to come.”

The funds, awarded in May 2022, were used to purchase new equipment, technology and training aids to help enhance the skills and experience for swimmers and staff. More specifically, the club used the money for an underwater swim cam system and iPads to help coaches record swimmers’ strokes and turns, provide instant video analysis and to use as training aids with swimmers of all levels.

The team also purchased the Dolphin Timing System, a widely used and proven wireless swimming stopwatch timing system, to help with training and competitions while also allowing the club to host swim meets more efficiently. Two sets of waterproof headsets and two backstroke ledges rounded out the new training equipment purchases. Funds were also used to equip board members and coaching staff with supports including equity, diversity and inclusion education and training.

“The Trillium grant was a big boost to our club during a time when we were looking to both build back our club enrollment and offer enhanced training for our swimmers”, said Cambridge Aquajets president Colleen Murdoch. “We are very grateful for the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the volunteers who manage the granting process.  The equipment has been well received by our coaches and swimmers alike.”
