Hundreds of residents gathered at city hall on Friday night to kick off Cambridge Winterfest with Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night walk.
The festivities began with a speech from newly elected Mayor Jan Liggett before the crowd began the walking tour around Galt.
“What a crowd, look at everyone out here, it’s just amazing,” Liggett said as she opened her address.
“It’s not surprising our Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night is consistently the largest in the entire world. I’m always delighted by the sounds and the lights at this event.”
The walk featured 30 light installations, street performers and Phil Kline’s music playing through speakers along the route. Cambridge, which was running the event for the 14th year, is one of 38 cities to host the holiday walk in 2022.
Cambridge is also the only Canadian city to host it this holiday season.
“When I think of Winterfest, I think of family and friends coming together to celebrate the season,” Liggett said.
“It’s so important we get back to doing things in the community that lift our spirits and brings us together.”
The walk is the first of several events that have been planned leading into the new year.
Next up, the CP Holiday Train rolls into the Malcolm Street Train Station on Nov. 30 with a pre-show performance from Cambridge band Pilot Project, followed by the main show of Lindsay Ell and JoJo Mason.
