We're looking for engaged Cambridge residents for our advisory board

Join our new advisory board. We are looking for people from a wide range of backgrounds, representing various sectors to help guide our news coverage
community

Since arriving on the scene in May of 2021, CambridgeToday has endeavoured to be your best and most up-to-date source of local news and information.

In that time, our editorial team has grown to two reporters, freelancers and an editor.

This doesn't include the team at Village Media who oversee journalists from across a wide network dedicated to delivering a robust digital news package.

Your response to our coverage shows we're hitting the mark by giving readers an in-depth and comprehensive overview of what's happening locally.

But we want to be better at connecting with the people that make Cambridge such a great community in which to live, work and play and we need your help to do it.

We're ready to listen to what you want to see on CambridgeToday.

We want to hear what you think about us, what you want to see more coverage of, what you want to see less coverage of, and why.

We want to hear what you believe we do right and what we do wrong. And maybe what we don't do at all, but should.

With that in mind, CambridgeToday is creating an advisory board that aims to include people from as many sectors of the city as possible to help us in our pursuit of hyper-local stories that matter to you. We believe having those important conversations will, in turn, help us strengthen our role in the community.

The advisory board will be an informal body of citizens who will meet a two or three times a year to be our sounding board and offer insights that help make our coverage more relevant and inclusive to everyone.

We are looking for five to 10 people from different segments of the community and from varied professional and personal backgrounds to provide new perspectives and who represent a range of voices and diversity, including age, income, occupation, ethnicity, ability, and gender.

This does not include special-interest groups and political organizations.

Some of the areas we would like to draw from include the non-profit sector, well-known public figures, visible minorities, people from the LGBTQ+ community, people from the news industry or with a journalism background, the business world, law enforcement, the youth sector, as well as health care and education.

We want people with strong opinions who are willing to share them on occasion in an opinion article for publication.

You don’t need to be a member of an established organization, but you do need to be willing to share and engage respectfully with a diverse group of people focused on creating connections, forming partnerships, building bridges and exploring solutions.

CambridgeToday isn't asking you to do our job for us. But we want to make sure we are listening to those that reflect the community we serve and that our news site reflects that.

The advisory board's mandate will be to provide unbiased insights and ideas from a third-party point of view. In short, we want to help build better relationships with people and groups whose information needs are not being met by us or other local news sources.

As journalists, we're always learning more about the communities we cover and looking for ways to improve what we do, and we need your help to get there.

We’re asking you to commit to attending up to three meetings in a one-year term and we’re hoping to host the first meeting in June.

If you're interested, or have any questions, please email me at [email protected] by Friday, June 2 and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Please highlight your background and reasons for wanting to join the board.

We look forward to hearing from you. We are here to listen!
