Mike Ennis has been appointed president and CEO of YMCA of Three Rivers.

There’s a new but familiar person heading YMCA of Three Rivers. Mike Ennis, who has been serving as interim president and CEO, has been officially appointed to the roles.

“Mike’s commitment to the Y movement over the past two decades continues to be inspiring. He leads with humility and deeply understands both the complexities and impact of our organization,” said Harold Whiteside, YMCA of Three Rivers board chair, in a news release.

“We are one of Canada’s newest YMCAs, and we are excited to have Mike as our champion as we continue our work of making our diverse communities healthier and more vibrant.”

YMCA of Three Rivers provides services in Guelph, Waterloo Region and Stratford.

Ennis has more than 20 years of experience in “progressive leadership roles” within a variety of Ontario YMCAs, the release states. Among them, he served as general manager of the YMCA-YWCA of the national capital region and the former YMCA of Western Ontario. While with YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, he held the positions of vice-president, senior vice-president and chief operating officer.

He further held the positions of manager of training and development with the YMCA Ontario Management Resource Centre.

“I am honoured and very excited to be selected as the next CEO of the YMCA of Three Rivers. Ever since my first role as a member service and sales representative at the YMCA-YWCA of  the national capital region, I have had the privilege of seeing the impact that YMCAs have on communities across our province and our country,” said Ennis in the release. “In the past few months, I have been humbled by the incredible efforts of our teams across Guelph, Stratford-Perth, and Waterloo Region.

“I am thrilled to be working with an amazing team at Three Rivers as we continue to address challenges facing our communities such as inequity, injustice, inaccessibility, isolation, and individual well-being.”

Previous president and CEO Peter Sweeney was announced back in March as Region of Waterloo’s new commissioner of community services.
