Five Cambridge Hawks players selected in OHL draft

Three forwards, a defenceman and a goalie were among the selections out of Cambridge Minor Hockey

The 2023 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection took place on April 21 and 22.

Day two of the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection on Saturday saw five Cambridge Minor Hockey Association players taken between rounds six and 15.

The first Hawk off the board was right winger Jordan Charron who was selected in the 6th round, 108th overall by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Charron scored 10 goals and had 13 assists for 23 points in 33 games this season. He also suited up for three games with the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League's Ayr Centennials.

Six picks later, teammate and defenceman Jack D'Arcy was taken by the Flint Firebirds with the 114th pick. In 33 games this season, D'Arcy potted four goals and added eight assists. The Ayr Centennials also called him up for a pair of games. 

Goaltender Xavier Bussiere was then taken 216th overall in the 11th round by the Saginaw Spirit. He played in 16 games for the Hawks and posted a 3.11 goals against average.

Next up was centre Reid Gammage who went to the London Knights in 13th round, 258th overall. Gammage found the back of the net 14 times and recorded 17 assists in 32 games and played in one game with the Cambridge RedHawks of the GOJHL.

With the 289th pick in the 15th round, the Brantford Bulldogs selected left winger Caysen Craig, rounding out the Cambridge players selected. Playing in 33 games during the season, Craig scored four goals and added six helpers.
