Corey Prang has been named the new head coach of the Elmira Sugar Kings of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Prang had served as one of the team’s assistant coaches for the past two seasons.

A former Sugar Kings standout and member of the team’s Sutherland Cup championship team in 1997, Prang also played for the Cambridge Hornets during the 2000-2001 season.

The left winger scored eight goals and added 12 assists in 17 games.

The Kitchener native takes over a team that finished 29-20-1-0 this past season and finished in fourth place in the Midwestern Conference.

After defeating the Ayr Centennials in six games in the opening round of the playoffs, the Sugar Kings bowed out in six games to the Waterloo Siskins.
