JULY 29, 1953 – MARCH 28, 2022

Jim finished his final marathon with glioblastoma, crossing the finish line peacefully at home on Monday, March 28, 2022 at the age of 68.

Partner and best friend to Sandi Sherk, with whom he shared 14 years of adventure and laughter. Proud and loving father of Rob Black (Jenn) and Heather Black (Ross). Dear brother of Karen Summers (Stuart) and Joanne Adamick (Jason). Jim is also survived by his “in-laws”, Jan Jackson(Jim) and Barbara Black, and by his nieces and nephews, Jordan, Kalena, Anthony, Katherine, Rachel and Aiden.

Fondly remembered by Rob and Heather’s mother, Linda Black (nee Barwell), by his oldest friend, John Nelson, and by his crazy, caring friends, too numerous to mention, who accompanied Jim on all his adventures (and ensured his safe return). He is predeceased by his parents, Rev. Douglas and Helen Black, and his brother Robert Paul Black. Jim packed many lifetimes into his 68 years – he was a well-respected project technician at Jamesway Incubator until his retirement. He loved cycling, running, and any outdoor activities with “go”- he was a blood donor over 160 times, ran his first of 2 Boston Marathons at age 60, and completed 16 marathons in 14 years, as well as several other distance runs, and even took on a Tough Mudder, but his proudest accomplishment in life was his children.
