JANUARY 24, 1938 – NOVEMBER 13, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Shirley’s passing on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital at the age of 84 years.

She is together once again with her beloved husband Robert (2012) and her daughter Christine (2016). Loving mother of Grant (Sheila), Kevin, Blake (Suzanne) and mother-in-law to Bill Kalkhoven. Proud Nana of Joshua (Melanie), Katie (Tara), Jake (Amy), Nicholas (Cait), Marc (Jocelyn), Cortney (Jake), Paul and Great-Nana to Conner, Fredrick, Madelynn, Logan and Lincoln. Shirley is predeceased by her parents William and Vera Schlueter and siblings: Stillman, Audrey, Grace, Arlene, Phyliss, Elaine, June, Fern and William Jr. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her extended family and friends.

Shirley was a kind and giving woman. She was very generous with her time and enjoyed volunteering for many organizations over the years. These included Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Canadian Blood Services and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was a proud member for many years. She also often volunteered helping young adults with developmental disabilities and enjoyed the time she had spent getting to know each of them and even having them over for lunch from time to time. Anyone that knows Shirley will remember her for her love of pigs. She would have loved to have one as a pet, but instead had quite the extensive collection of ceramic pigs. She of course loved her family and time spent together but nothing brought her greater joy than her great-grandchildren. She truly cherished the time spent together and the special bonds that she had with each of them.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 2 p.m. with one hour of visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge (519-621-1650).

In lieu of flowers, donations made in Shirley’s memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

A very special thank you Shirley’s nieces Ivy Hesse and Kathy Schmidt for all of the care and support you provided to Shirley. It has meant so much not only to Shirley, but the rest of the family as well – thank you.
