Call for help from Cambridge hotel results in human trafficking charges for Brampton man

A 26-year-old Brampton man faces 15 human trafficking related charges

Police have charged a Brampton male with 15 human trafficking-related offences after receiving a call from a female requiring assistance at a Cambridge hotel.

On April 11, 2022, at approximately 9:45 a.m., police responded to a hotel in the area of Holiday Inn Drive and located a female who had contacted police for assistance. The female was immediately taken to a place of safety.

A male was located a short time later and placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, officers from the Joint Waterloo-Guelph Human Trafficking Team have charged a 26-year-old Brampton male with the following offences:

  • Trafficking in persons
  • Procuring
  • Material benefit resulting from trafficking in person
  • Advertise sexual services
  • Point a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Assault cause bodily harm
  • Kidnapping
  • Possession of an identity document
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Forcible confinement
  • Three counts of breach release order

The male was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

The victim has been provided with wrap-around support services from Victim Services.
