Cambridge driver charged with dangerous driving, failing to remain at scene

The charges come after police responded to a residence to investigate a report of dangerous driving and failing to remain at the scene of a crash

A Cambridge resident is now facing criminal charges in Huron County following a traffic investigation conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) earlier this week.

On Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Huron County OPP officers responded to a residence located on Orchard Line to investigate a report of dangerous driving and a fail to remain at the scene of a crash. Upon arrival officers spoke with witnesses and learned the accused nearly drove into a young toddler on the property. Following this near miss the accused collided with a parked motorcycle on the property and then drove away from the scene.

Police later located the driver and she was placed under arrest and charged.

Brenda Smith, 52 years of age from Cambridge has been charged with dangerous operation, fail to stop after accident and two counts of fail to comply with probation order. 

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich on May 30, 2022.
