Charges laid in BMW, Hummer crash that sent Cambridge woman to hospital

WATERLOO REGION – The Waterloo Regional Police Service's Traffic Unit has laid charges against a driver after a collision investigation in Waterloo. 

On July 27, 2021, at approximately 5:05 p.m., emergency services responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision in the area of Erb Street East and Ellis Crescent North. 

A BMW SUV, being operated by a 69-year-old Toronto female, was travelling south on Erb Street East, crossing Ellis Crescent North, when the vehicle was struck by a Hummer vehicle. The Hummer was being operated by a 31-year-old Cambridge female. 

The investigation determined that the Hummer was travelling east and struck the passenger side of the BMW. 

The force of the collision caused both vehicles to come to rest on the front lawn of a residence on Erb Street. A hydro pole was also damaged. 

The driver of the BMW was transported to hospital with minor injuries. A 70-year-old passenger was transported to an out-of-region hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Hummer did not sustain any physical injuries. 

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the BMW was charged with careless driving - cause bodily harm. 

Erb Street East at Ellis Crescent was reduced to one lane for several hours while Waterloo North Hydro replaced the damaged hydro pole.
