Local driver facing impaired charge following crash northeast of Oshawa

The driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries

Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) through separate investigations intercepted two drivers found to be impaired.

On July 25, 2021 shortly before 2 p.m. a concerned citizen stopped to offer assistance to a driver who had parked at the side of the road on Highway 7, near Oakwood. Thanks to the passerby's quick thinking and initiative, officers were able to respond to the 911 call and found the driver to be impaired. 

Jason Simpson, 51 years of age, of Toronto has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration-80 plus

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on Aug. 19, 2021.

Later on the same day at approximately 6 p.m. officers responded to report of a vehicle that had driven off the roadway of Highway 7A and collided with some trees in Manvers Township. The driver was transported to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The ensuing investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver.

Michelle Fish, 42 years of age, of Cambridge, has been charged with operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration-80 plus.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on Aug. 5, 2021.

Impaired drivers continue to threaten the safety and lives of all road users. If you cannot drive sober, don't drive. If you suspect an impaired driver, call 911.
