Local teen facing assault with a weapon charges

Waterloo Regional Police have charged a youth after responding to an incident at Brierdale Plaza in Cambridge. 

On April 6, 2022, at approximately 11:30 a.m., police responded to reports of a disturbance in the area of 115 Christopher Drive. 

Several youths were at the plaza during a lunch break. While there, the suspect male youth used a lighter and aerosol spray as a torch and approached the group. The male also brandished a broken glass bottle and a knife. 

The group was able to get away from the suspect and reported the incident. 

There were no physical injuries reported. 

Through investigation, police located and arrested the suspect. 

A 14-year-old Cambridge male has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats to cause death. 

The youth was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
