Regional police are reminding motorists they all have a role to play in road safety.
Since June 1, officers have responded to 15 collisions involving motorcycles throughout Waterloo region. Six of those crashes resulted in major injuries.
Since the start of 2022, there have been 31 collisions involving motorcycles, eight with major injuries. Police say when compared to 2021, the number of collisions resulting in major injuries have increased by 60 per cent.
"Speed, attentiveness and turning movements were frequently identified as contributing factors to these collisions." according to a news release.
A staff sergeant with the Traffic Services Unit of Waterloo Regional Police said these type of crashes can often be tragic and life-changing events.
“It is vitally important that we watch out for each other on the road and drive in a manner that helps reduce these types of collisions.” Staff Sgt. Scott Griffiths said.
Police are also encouraging residents to report any driving behaviours that endanger road users or members of the public. Police can be reached at 519-570-9777, or call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
