MISSISSAUGA – The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, has found no reasonable grounds to believe that any Guelph Police Service officers committed a criminal offence in connection with a multi-vehicle collision in Cambridge that resulted in serious injuries last May.
On May 27, 2021, a man suffered serious injuries in a collision on Kossuth Road when his vehicle collided with two vehicles being operated by Guelph Police Service officers. The on-duty officers were on assignment when the man’s vehicle crossed the centre lane and struck their vehicles. The man suffered serious injuries.
Director Martino wrote it was apparent that the officers involved did nothing to cause or contribute to the crash. As such, the file has been closed.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians.
