Police explain Waterloo airport bomb threat

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a bomb threat at Region of Waterloo International Airport. 

On Dec. 13, 2021, at approximately 2 p.m., police responded to a report of a bomb on a plane at the Regional Airport. 

A passenger reported to staff that another passenger threatened that he had a bomb on the plane. 

Upon arrival, police took one male into custody. The plane was also evacuated of all passengers. 

Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Explosives Disposal Unit are currently on scene and are investigating whether an explosive device is on the plane or not. 

Waterloo Regional Police are working in partnership with airport staff, as the airport is currently in lockdown. Operations have been modified, and travel will be impacted. 

There will be an increased emergency services presence, and the public is requested to avoid the area.
