Police seize loaded handgun, $11K in drugs during traffic stop

Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Direct Action Response Team (DART) seized a loaded handgun as a result of a traffic stop in Cambridge.

On Feb. 9, 2022, at approximately 9:20 p.m., an officer on proactive patrol conducted a traffic stop in the area of Hespeler Road and Pinebush Road for a suspected impaired driver.

Through investigation, a loaded handgun and drugs, including suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and oxycodone were seized. The approximate value of the seized drugs is over $11,000.

The driver and passenger, both 18-year-old males from Cambridge, were arrested and are facing numerous drugs and firearms charges, including:

  • Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking (four counts)
  • Possess weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Carrying concealed weapon

The arrested parties were held for a bail hearing.
