A 27-year-old Cambridge male was transported to hospital Tuesday following a collision which closed a major Guelph intersection for more than three hours.

Investigation revealed the male’s motor vehicle was southbound on Victoria Road North about 1:45 p.m. when it collided with a pole in the centre median at Eramosa Road, then was struck by a second southbound vehicle.

The male was extricated from his vehicle by members of the Guelph Fire Department then transported to hospital by Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service with what are believed to be minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured and was able to drive his vehicle from the scene.

The pole was significantly damaged to the point there was a concern it could fall over, requiring the intersection be closed until it could be replaced by the City of Guelph’s Public Works Department. The intersection reopened approximately 5 p.m.

The collision is still under investigation. Anyone who witnessed it or has dashcam footage, and has not yet spoken to police, is asked to call Constable Josh Beecraft at 519-824-1212, ext. 7186, or email him at [email protected].
