Two charged after police respond to call of vehicle with paper licence plates

Police say the driver also backed into a cruiser while trying to flee the scene

Waterloo Regional Police arrested two males after officers were called to a parking lot on Pinebush Road in Cambridge for a suspicious vehicle. 

On July 4, 2021, at approximately 3:45 p.m., police responded to a parking lot in the area of Pinebush Road and Hespeler Road after receiving a call about a vehicle in the lot with paper licence plates. 

Upon arrival, officers observed two individuals in the vehicle. The driver attempted to flee and reversed into a police cruiser, causing minor damage. The passenger also attempted to flee from police by running from the car. Both males were arrested. 

As a result of the investigation, the vehicle was determined to be stolen, and both males were observed to be in possession of stolen property within the vehicle. 

The driver, a 22-year-old Brampton male, is facing numerous charges, including:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,
  • Flight from police,
  • Possession of stolen property, and
  • Possession of drugs. 

The passenger, a 23-year-old Brampton male, is facing several charges, including:

  • Two counts of possession of an identity document,
  • Possession of a credit card obtained by crime,
  • Obstruct police, and
  • Possession of stolen property. 

Police seized a small amount of suspected fentanyl. 

Both males were held in custody for a bail hearing.
