Cremation offers a flexible alternative to traditional funerals

“The objective is to give families an alternative to traditional funerals,” says Sarah Stead, location manager.

Cremation continues to rise as the service of choice for a variety of reasons including the ability to hold a service later (with the urn in place of the body) when friends and family cannot gather promptly after a passing and for those that choose to have a celebration of life. Some families wish to have several members take ownership of the ashes or the person may have asked to have their ashes scattered in different locations.

Many people wonder about the steps leading up to cremation. Sarah is happy to explain.

“Before a cremation can take place, a coroner reviews the medical certificate of death provided by the physician. The medical certificate is then used, along with the statement of death, to register the death. Information provided by the executor/next of kin about the deceased is used to complete the statement of death. In return for those two documents, a cremation permit is issued. The permit and coroner’s certificate must be obtained, and cremation authorization, application and contracts need to be signed before a cremation can be scheduled.”

The team knows that all of this takes place during a very emotional time for the family. Grand River Cremation Service is happy to provide efficient service while also remaining compassionate during the family’s time of need.

“Losing someone you love is very difficult,” says Sarah. “Sometimes there are no words to describe the emotions or emptiness. Our arrangements are done online so everything can be looked after from the comfort of home. I try to make the process as simple as possible and even try to deliver their loved one’s ashes to the home, if that would be helpful. I don’t think anyone wants to arrange to have their loved one cremated, so I try to be the person I would need if I were them.”

This caring, compassionate, professional service has earned Grand River Cremation numerous 5-star reviews along with a 2022 Readers’ Choice gold.

The team looks forward to continuing to help families with simple, compassionate, dignified and affordable cremation services in Guelph. Learn more online and on Facebook.
