Saint Luke’s Place is a charitable, non-profit, accredited long-term care home and independent living community for seniors. In addition to the current 114 bed long-term care home, Saint Luke’s Place maintains two independent senior apartment buildings and a seniors’ active living centre. It’s a non-denominational campus of care that celebrates diversity and welcomes everyone.

Saint Luke’s Place is continuing to build upon its reputation of excellence.

CEO David Bakker says, “Saint Luke’s Place goes above and beyond the general operation of long-term care service. We provide excellent service while ensuring our residents are safe. We came through the pandemic with minimal to no harm coming to residents, families, visitors, and staff.”

Because exceptional infection prevention and control measures were taken, Saint Luke’s Place did not see a major COVID outbreak until 11 months after the start of the pandemic, when residents and staff had already received their first vaccinations.

To provide the best quality of life for their residents and staff, Saint Luke’s Place continuously strives to improve and enhance its programs and services. They try to provide a holistic approach for the care of body, mind, and spirit.

Bakker says, “We are growing and developing to not only continue to provide excellent physical care, but exceptional mental and social care as well. We are implementing best practices to ensure that we provide the best care to everyone who has contact with Saint Luke’s Place.”

$83 million redevelopment project

Saint Luke’s Place is in the process of developing a new $83 million building that will provide up to 192 new beds for long-term care residents. Through an agreement with Saint Luke’s United Church, Saint Luke’s Place has acquired land adjacent to their existing campus for the construction of the building, which will allow for minimal disruption to the current residents.

Bakker says, “We want to build on Saint Luke’s reputation and history of building development and providing care and programs for seniors since we were established nearly 50 years ago.”

It's a partnership between Saint Luke’s Place, the Ministry of Long-Term Care, and the community of Cambridge. The expansion will change the lives of families who are searching for much needed care and services for their loved ones. With the land secured and ministry support, plans for the redevelopment of the new Saint Luke’s Place long-term care home is another step closer to putting a shovel in the ground.

David Bakker is proud of the outstanding reputation that Saint Luke’s Place has built in the community. He says, “We will be constructing our new building and redeveloping our property and buildings to the latest building standards to benefit residents, tenants, families, and staff for years to come.”

Welcome Home Capital Campaign

As part of the redevelopment plans, Saint Luke’s Place has launched its Welcome Home Capital Fundraising Campaign. Their fundraising goal is $12 million. The need to develop additional long-term care beds is urgent. Saint Luke’s Place alone has a significant, multi-year waiting list.

As a charitable not-for-profit organization, Saint Luke’s Place relies upon the generosity of the Cambridge community. It welcomes donations and pledges from individuals, families, local service organizations, and the community. There are various ways to donate, including planned giving bequests, memorial donations, and fundraising events.

Saint Luke’s Place is hosting their 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament on June 26th at Whistle Bear Golf Club. Sponsors, golfers, and community volunteers are being invited to participate. For more information contact Carrie Fisher at [email protected] Saint Luke’s Place has received a significant number of initial donations. The fundraising campaign will not only support the redevelopment project, it will also help to purchase equipment and fixtures for the new building.

The pandemic has exposed an enormous gap in healthcare for the elderly and their redevelopment project is part of the solution. David Bakker points out, “This project is the solution to create additional capacity in the healthcare system, reduce wait times, and increase the provision of excellent care. The project not only includes the creation of up to 192 new long-term care beds, but it also allows Saint Luke’s Place to provide a new purpose for its existing beds and building.”
