Is your bathroom looking a little drab?

After more than a year of being in some form of lockdown, you may be getting tired of staring at the same four walls inside your home.

The odd-coloured bathtub, peeling wallpaper and fixtures that came with the house built in the 60’s may finally be the push you need to renovate.

BathWorx in Cambridge can give your bathroom a modern and fresh look that will lift you out of the lockdown funk.

The Horinga family which owns BathWorx, has been in the bathroom renovation business for more than 20 years. Brent Horinga can take a client’s vision of their dream bathroom and turn it into reality.

It all starts with booking an appointment. BathWorx will complete a safe in-home estimate and help clients create a space that will be transformed from bland to beautiful.

Start with the tub

Homeowners often start with modifying or modernizing their bathtub. There are various options; from cut-out tubs, to tub-to-shower conversions to, bathtub replacements.

BathWorx will replace a tub, fit the new tub into the same footprint and replace old pipes and drains at the same time.

Brent Horinga said, “While regular tubs are still popular, soaker tubs have been making inroads in bathroom design.” From home schooling to working from home, the stress of the pandemic has intensified our desire for rest and relaxation.

BathWorx can complete a bathtub replacement in two days, a full bathroom remodel in five days.

Ten years ago, homeowners were opting for basic bathrooms. Today, they’re looking for something a little more luxurious.

If the vision is more opulent, they can do that too, by covering the walls with dynamic tile surround or marble and adding designer fixtures.

“A white bathroom, white tub and white shower surround finished with black fixtures shows really nicely. Silver marble design is another popular trend. Dark fixtures really pop when contrasted with a lighter marble.”

According to Horinga, “Renovations are very popular right now. People are not putting their money into vacations, they’re putting it into their home.”

A marble backsplash, quartz countertops, integrated lighting, mixed-metals and back-lit mirrors are just some of the accessories available. Modifications that make a bathroom more accessible and safer are popular with seniors as well.

Tax incentives available for seniors

There are government tax incentives for seniors who renovate to make their home more accessible and safer. The federal Home Accessibility Tax Credit allows for a 15% tax credit for up to $10,000 in safety-related renovations. It applies to residents 65 and older and those who hold a valid disability tax certificate.

Meanwhile, the provincial Seniors’ Home Safety Tax Credit will offer a 25% tax credit to individuals 65 and over for accessibility renovations. If $10,000 worth of work is done, the tax filer would receive a $2500 credit.

Brent Horinga encourages seniors to take advantage of these incentives. The provincial program expires at the end of this year.
