Voters head to the polling station at Preston High School on Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Cambridge is among 19 ridings across the province where 27 poll stations will remain open past 9 p.m. to accommodate a glitch that saw no voter information data flowing to political parties for much of Thursday morning after polls opened.

Canadian Press reports the issue did not affect polling stations for voters, but rather the information that flows to parties to let them know who has or has not voted, which is known as "strike-off data."

Elections Ontario says counting can't begin in those districts until their polls are closed.

The extensions span between 10 minutes and two hours.

Affected polls in Cambridge will close at 9:15.

In a press release, Elections Ontario cautioned as voting began at more than 7,000 voting locations across Ontario on Thursday morning, "unavoidable delays may occur."

In such cases, Ontario’s Chief Electoral Officer has the authority under subsection 40(5) of the Election Act to extend voting hours.

More than 55,000 election officials are helping voters throughout the province as they cast their ballots, said the release.

Elections Ontario confirmed all polls are up and running and that voting continues in all 124 electoral districts in Ontario.
