More than 6,000 Waterloo Region residents received their fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine in the last seven days.

The latest vaccination update for the region was released on Thursday and showed a total of 7,402 COVID-19 vaccines were administered over the last week. That's up from 5,854 vaccines the week prior.

A total of 6,040 shots were fourth doses, representing around 82 per cent of the new weekly total; while 587 were third doses, 435 were second doses, and 340 were first.

All adults in Ontario became eligible for Moderna's new bivalent booster last Monday, and while there was an uptick in vaccines administered week-over-week locally, many people have still not received any booster.

The latest data shows that while more than 90 per cent of Waterloo Region residents aged 18 and up received a first and second dose of COVID-19 vaccine, only 60.7 per cent have gotten a third and 19.1 per cent have received a fourth so far.
