Four new deaths reported in latest local COVID update

Four new COVID-related deaths were confirmed by Region of Waterloo Public Health in the latest update.

As a result, the local death toll is now 500 since the start of the pandemic. 

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have increased by nine since the last update. There are currently 45 patients hospitalized, with three patients in intensive care with COVID.

245 new cases were also confirmed, putting the overall total at 54,100. 

The active caseload is up by 83 since the last update to 288.

A reminder, COVID-19 case counts are said to be an underestimate due to ongoing testing restrictions.
