Hospitalizations down in latest local COVID update

One new COVID-related death was confirmed by Region of Waterloo Public Health in the latest weekly update, released on January 6.

There have been 501 deaths locally since the start of the pandemic.

"Today we are reporting one COVID-related death. The individual was a male in his 100s. I wish to express my deep sympathy to the family of this individual." said Dr. Julie Emili, Associate Medical Officer of Health.

The data also showed that local hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dropped by 16 since the last update. There are currently 36 COVID patients hospitalized.

Intensive care admissions rose to six after being at four last week.

259 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the latest update. The active caseload went up by 30 to 326, while 463 more cases were deemed resolved.
