More COVID-related deaths in region so far this year than last

There were 150 deaths related to COVID-19 last year, and there have been 152 in the first nine months of 2022

Some concerning figures from Region of Waterloo Public Health when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The past two weeks, the health unit has reported a total of 20 COVID-related deaths in our community. 

A public health spokesperson confirmed that as of September 9, there have been 152 related deaths so far this year in Waterloo Region. 

That surpasses the total for all of 2021, when there were 150 COVID-related deaths reported locally. 

For comparison, there were 123 COVID-related deaths between January 1 and September 9 of 2021. 

The death toll since the start of the pandemic reached 470, as of last Friday.
