Public Health reports dip in COVID hospitalizations, no new deaths

No new COVID-related deaths were confirmed by Region of Waterloo Public Health in the latest update, released Friday afternoon. As a result, the local death toll remains at 479.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dropped since the last update. There are currently 49 patients that are hospitalized, that is down from 52 patients in last week's update. Meanwhile, no patients are in intensive care with COVID.

258 new cases were also confirmed Friday, putting the overall total at 52,048.

The active caseload is up by eight since the last update to 275.

86.8 per cent of residents five and over in Waterloo Region have at least two doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Over 1.43 million doses have been administered to local residents, including 310,658 third doses. 50.2 per cent of all residents have received a third dose, with 15.9 per cent already having their fourth dose.

52.2 per cent of children between 5 and 11 have received at least one dose. 40.5 per cent have received two doses.
